Venice is divided in a historical center, in the middle of the lagoon, and a mainland where you can find Mestre and Marghera.

Venice is the wonderful city center, with historical buildings and museum and a lot of tourists.

Mestre is the newer city, where you can still find Italian way of life: accommodation and food at affordable prices, services, shopping centers, only 15 minutes from the tourist site. Mestre cannot be compared to the historical center of Venice, as the center of Paris cannot be compared to the XIV roundissement.

The historical center is crowded with tourists and all the activities are focused on tourism, while in the mainland you can still find the typical Italian city.

After spending the whole day as a tourist in the historical center of Venice, have a break and enjoy a restaurant in Mestre. Restaurants in the mainland are usually cheaper than in the historical center. There is a good choice of restaurants where you can taste the traditional dishes of the area, but also places to enjoy modern cuisine.
